Welcome to the AFS family. Let’s make some memories!

“Swiss Alps Snow Safari”. January 2025

We just returned from a true Winter Wonderland in the Swiss Alps. From Zurich to Grindelwald, Lake Geneva, and the Bernese Oberland, we experienced the iconic World Snow Festival and glamped in the heart of the Alps. We traveled by cable car, gondola, and scenic train to legendary snow parks, including Glacier 3000 and the famous Jungfrau.

We went dark sledding under the stars, snow tubing, dog sledding, hiking with huskies, and unwinding in wellness spas. Fondue and world-class cuisine were on the menu. At the Grindelwald Snow Festival, we watched artists carve ice sculptures—and even tried it ourselves.

A highlight was staying at the exclusive Whitepods: glass igloos nestled into the Valais mountainside. We woke to sweeping mountain views, explored toboggan parks, snowshoed, skied, and relaxed in the spa. The scenery was breathtaking, and our group enjoyed luxury accommodations in perfect locations.

This was a trip for travelers seeking a magical winter escape. The Swiss Alps, along with chocolates, cheese, and cowbells, delivered Europe’s ultimate winter adventure.

1950s Time Travel: Cuba Uncovered    AFS Hemingway’s Cuba, March  2025

We had one single or twin room left for this trip, and it closed soon after. To claim the last spot, travelers texted “CUBA” or called 770-432-8225.

Cuba stood out as a rare place, its history and culture largely untouched by outside influences. On this journey, guests experienced authentic Cuban life across three regions.

This wasn’t a typical Caribbean getaway. We connected with locals, explored music, dance, colonial architecture, UNESCO sites, museums, and more.

The trip included a vintage car parade down the Riviera, a national park tour in Russian Army trucks, visits to Hemingway’s Villa, handcraft markets, cigar factory, a private bay cruise, lunch with artist Jose Fuster, hacienda dinners, dance company visits, resort beach time, and salsa under the stars. Our guides brought Old Havana, Trinidad, and Cienfuegos to life.

Cuba’s long isolation created deep curiosity. Once off-limits, it became a top destination, and we made legal, licensed travel easy with our “People to People” educational program. Our Cuban team tailored the experience for American guests.

All meals and Cuba’s best hotels were included. The trip sold out quickly—a unique chance to experience ‘Cars, Cigars, and Cuba at large.’ The best memories came from extraordinary journeys. Cuba proved a land beyond the ordinary.

Egypt Nile Cruise: Where the Ancient Meets the Eternal. Unearth the Timeless Wonders of Egypt    April  2025

We plunged into the birthplace of civilization, where Egypt’s ancient and modern worlds blended around us. The land of the pharaohs revealed its secrets, shaped by thousands of years of Greek, Roman, Christian, and Arab influences. We pictured the endless Sahara, the lush Nile, and the weight of history in every breeze. Egypt offered up stories waiting to be discovered, with echoes of rulers and thinkers in every corner.

We wandered through Luxor’s temples, reading tales etched in stone. Gliding down the Nile, we heard calls to prayer mix with the sounds of the river. Together, we experienced Egypt as a journey through time, where the ancient met the eternal.

Traveling with Adventures For Solo Travelers, we found a community that embraced Egypt’s wonders. Cairo’s vibrant markets overwhelmed our senses, cardamom and roses perfuming the air. We touched the stones of the Great Pyramids, feeling the centuries beneath our hands.

This was more than a trip—it was living the legends of Egypt, feeling the land’s pulse with new friends. The planning was handled, so we simply enjoyed the ride. Our souls were stirred by Egypt’s eternal wonders.

We joined an unforgettable journey along the Nile, watching daily life unfold and exploring preserved monuments. We marveled at temple treasures, soaked up Cairo’s energy, and drifted along the Nile, Egypt’s heartbeat.

This wasn’t just a visit—it was an adventure that left us in awe. We didn’t just see Egypt; we lived it, together.

AFS Belize & Guatemala, “Jungle, Reefs and Lost Cities”    May 2025

We set out on an adventure that took us deep into the wilds of Belize and Guatemala. Over eight days, we explored ancient caves and temples, trekked through dense jungles, and swam above some of the world’s most vibrant reefs. Our dual-destination trip let us experience the best of both countries—so close together, yet each offered its own magic. The marine reserves, national parks, and wildlife sanctuaries we visited were unforgettable.

Belize, often called Central America’s jewel, dazzled us with its mix of cultures, beautiful beaches, and incredible biodiversity. Nearly half the country is protected land, and we spotted monkeys, jaguars, toucans, plus every kind of marine life imaginable. Some chose to visit the famous Blue Hole, part of the world’s second-largest barrier reef.

We tried cave tubing, jungle hikes, waterfalls, ancient temples, and snorkeling in Shark Alley. Our private catamaran took us to Coral Gardens and the stunning Secret Beach.

Crossing into Guatemala, we found ourselves among the dramatic ruins of ancient Mayan cities. We explored UNESCO sites like Yaxha and Tikal, where temples rose above the misty cloud forest.

Every day felt like a hidden gem, and the warm welcome we received made the journey even more memorable. We discovered a part of the world that truly stirred our souls.

North Spitsbergen Explorer – Sea Ice & Wildlife – Midnight Sun     June  2025

We ventured into the ethereal realms of the High Arctic on our Spitsbergen odyssey. The experience was immersive from the start, as we journeyed through the northern stretches of this majestic haven, all of it bathed in the endless daylight of the midnight sun. We found ourselves awed at every turn, traversing a land where sea ice stretched to the horizon and wildlife ruled with quiet authority.

In the heart of Arctic summer, the 2025 summer solstice was our guide—a celestial spectacle that offered us 24 hours of solar embrace. We celebrated this astronomical marvel in Longyearbyen on June 21st, watching the sun’s grand halt in the sky. It marked a time when day never ended and night was nothing but a distant memory.

With each adventurous landing and shoreline hike, we found endless opportunities to observe whales breaching, polar bears wandering across the ice, and seabirds soaring overhead. We watched prestigious walruses reveal glimpses of their communal bonds, while Svalbard reindeer—living proof of successful conservation—grazed against the dramatic Arctic backdrop.

“Cloud Walking on Mont Blanc” From France to Switzerland to Italy Atop the Alps    June 2025

We just wrapped up some truly thrilling vacation therapy with AFS on an expedition like no other. We followed a variety of alpine trails along the Alps, winding through jaw-dropping scenic beauty across three different countries. Our last AFS group couldn’t get enough of the stunning landscapes and charming villages, and after seeing the waitlist, we knew we had to bring it back—only this time, we made it even better.

These world-class hiking trails, which draw half a million hikers each year, lived up to their reputation for classic status and incredible views. For hiking enthusiasts, it’s the “Tour du Mont Blanc” trek, spanning France, Italy, and Switzerland. Fodor’s calls it “the world’s best hike,” and after experiencing it ourselves, it’s easy to see why. From our base in the storybook town of Chamonix, we combined the very best day hikes the region has to offer. The Alps—“The Ceiling of Europe”—did not disappoint. We marveled at glistening glaciers, chiseled peaks, crystal lakes, and valleys so lush they looked unreal. The mountain air was crisp and clean, and late June felt like the perfect time: fewer crowds, ideal weather, and alpine meadows bursting with wildflowers. Days were spent on the trail, and evenings were for relaxing in cozy, quintessential alpine villages.

I was determined to do this right, so I customized every detail to make it as enjoyable as possible. This wasn’t a backpacker’s slum-it trip with crowded dorms. We stayed in inviting 3-star “mountain inns,” and hired top licensed guides who divided us into three groups based on fitness level. Our luggage traveled by van, and for the major ascents, we took cable cars and chairlifts—saving our energy for the best parts of the journey.

Now we can tell our friends we hiked the iconic Tour du Mont Blanc, an experience that had been on many of our bucket lists for years. Mont Blanc itself commands awe; it’s the crown of the Alps and a mecca for mountain lovers worldwide. The first few days of hiking were gentle, but the challenges ramped up as we went, making the sense of accomplishment even sweeter. You really do need to be fit for this kind of trip—we averaged five to nine miles per day—but no fancy gear was required. Just determination, a taste for adventure, and a pair of solid hiking boots.

North Spitsbergen Explorer – Sea Ice &Wildlife – Midnight Sun    June 2025

We ventured into the ethereal realms of the High Arctic on our Spitsbergen odyssey. The experience was immersive from the start, as we traveled through the north of this majestic haven, all of it illuminated by the perpetual daylight of the midnight sun. Each day, we found ourselves awestruck by a landscape where sea ice stretched endlessly and wildlife roamed freely.

During the height of Arctic summer, the 2025 summer solstice became our guiding event—a celestial phenomenon that bathed us in 24 hours of sunlight. We celebrated this astronomical marvel in Longyearbyen on June 21st, watching as the sun seemed to pause in the sky, creating a world where day never faded and night was all but forgotten.

With every adventurous landing and shoreline hike, we seized the chance to witness whales breaching, polar bears making their way across the ice, and seabirds wheeling above us. We caught rare glimpses of walruses clustered together, revealing the strength of their social bonds, while Svalbard reindeer—symbols of successful conservation—grazed against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and glaciers.

At no extra cost, we strapped on snowshoes and crossed varied terrains, from icy shores to sprawling snowy plains. For those of us craving an aquatic view, we kayaked across glassy waters bordered by glaciers—though some of these activities carried an extra charge unless specifically included.

This stirring journey brought us into the heart of Svalbard, where each fjord whispered stories from ages past and every encounter nudged us closer to nature’s grandeur. It was more than a voyage—it was an expedition through the very soul of Svalbard, where adventure met tranquility and memories destined to last a lifetime took root.
