April 5: Arrival in Cairo

Welcome to Cairo, Egypt’s vibrant capital where ancient history and modern culture blend seamlessly together. Upon arrival, we’ll provide a group transfer from the airport to our hotel. Please share your flight details so we can coordinate this. Those arriving at different times will receive instructions on how to meet us at the hotel. Our local representative will greet you and escort you to our private coach for the transfer.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure, getting settled and acclimated to your new surroundings before our adventure begins.

Cairo, the triumphant city, is a treasure trove of history and culture. As the largest city in the Middle East and Africa, it’s a fascinating place where the past and present converge. The city straddles the Nile River, which divides into two tributaries, the Rosetta and the Damietta, just south of its delta. Cairo’s eastern side is home to 2,000 years of Islamic, Christian Coptic, and Jewish culture, all still thriving today. To the west lies the ancient city of Memphis (Giza), the fabled capital of the Old Kingdom and site of the majestic Pyramids of Giza, the only remaining wonder of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. This evening, you are free to visit the fabulous Evening Sphinx Sound and Light Show. The evening show is a mesmerizing spectacle that brings ancient Egypt to life under the stars. April 6 – CAIRO: PYRAMIDS, SPHINX & GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM                                                                     B, L

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, then get ready for an unforgettable adventure. We’ll pick you up and take you on a private, full-day journey to the breathtaking Pyramids of Giza, where you’ll marvel at the iconic Sphinx and explore the stunning Grand Egyptian Museum, complete with a delicious local lunch.

Behold the majestic Pyramid of Cheops, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and the enigmatic Sphinx, the mighty lion-like guardian. These towering marvels have stood the test of time for over 35 centuries, built to safeguard the pharaohs’ bodies and treasures for the afterlife.

Next, we’ll visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, a state-of-the-art wonder located on the Giza Plateau, right next to the Pyramids. April 7 –        CAIRO – LUXOR – NILE CRUISE                                                                            B, L, D

Breakfast at hotel and then check out. Transfer back to the airport for onward flight to Luxor. (Flight included)
Group will check in to the cruise for the next four nights in time to enjoy lunch on board.
This afternoon group will be taken to visit the East Bank where the Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple are located.
Karnak Temple: Karnak was erected in 1928 BC as a small shrine dedicated to Amun, god of Thebes then. The Temple of Karnak comprises three main temples, smaller enclosed temples, and several outer temples – all constructed over 1300 years. The three main temples of Mut, Monthu and Amun, are enclosed in enormous brick walls, with the temple of Amun at the center. Karnak is now the largest.
Luxor Temple: In an unforgettable excursion, visitors drive to the Luxor Temple. Luxor temple located on the east bank of the Nile is a majestic architectural work constructed around 1400 BC. Unlike other temples, the Luxor temple was not dedicated to a God or a king but rather to the rejuvenation of kingship. Historians claim that the Luxor temple is where many kings were crowned, like Alexander the Great.
Return for later afternoon tea followed by a belly dance show and dinner on board. End the night with music in the lounge.

Begin your day with a leisurely breakfast on board, then set out to explore the West Bank of Luxor, a treasure trove of ancient history. Your first stop will be the Valley of the Kings and Queens, a breathtaking necropolis that once served as the final resting place for pharaohs and their families. Be awestruck by the elaborate tombs, their walls adorned with vivid hieroglyphics that tell the stories of a long-lost era.

Next, you’ll visit the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut at El-Deir El-Bahari. This stunning architectural marvel was built during the 15th century BC as a tribute to one of Egypt’s few female pharaohs. Its imposing structure and beautifully preserved reliefs make it an unforgettable sight.

As you delve into the history of this ancient city, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the culture and traditions that once flourished here. Thebes, the capital of Egypt during the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom periods, was a place of great wealth and power, renowned for its vast mineral resources and strategic trade routes.

After a morning steeped in history, return to the ship for a relaxing lunch as you set sail for Esna. Spend the afternoon watching the local life unfold along the riverbanks as you sip tea on the sun deck. As the day draws to a close, join fellow travelers for a Captain’s Welcome Cocktail Party, followed by a delicious dinner and an evening of music and entertainment in the lounge.  This day is a journey through the ages, a chance to experience the grandeur and mystique of ancient Egypt. As you step through its gates, you’ll be awestruck by the remarkably well-preserved walls, their sandstone blocks etched with inscriptions that offer a fascinating glimpse into the mythology and rituals of the ancient Egyptians.

After immersing yourself in the temple’s history, return to the ship for a leisurely lunch as you continue your journey to Kom Ombo. Spend the afternoon unwinding with tea on the sun deck, watching the Nile’s lush banks glide by. Later, you’ll have the chance to explore the intriguing Temple of Kom Ombo, a unique Ptolemaic-era structure dedicated to two gods. Be sure to note its remarkable design, with two perfectly symmetrical halves, each a mirror image of the other.

As the day draws to a close, return to the ship for a delicious dinner, followed by a lively Galabeya party. April 10:       KOM OMBO – ASWAN – NILE CRUISE                                                       B, L, D

As you enjoy breakfast on board, the ship will set sail for Aswan, a vibrant city located 240 km south of Luxor. Aswan has long been a place of great strategic importance, serving as Egypt’s southern gateway to Africa. Today, it’s a bustling hub known for its exceptional archaeological sites and rich cultural heritage.

Your first stop will be the Aswan High Dam, a marvel of modern engineering that has had a profound impact on Egypt. This massive rockfill dam, completed in 1971, captures the waters of the Nile in the vast Lake Nasser, the world’s largest artificial reservoir. Be sure to note the Old Dam, built in 1902, which played a crucial role in the region’s development.  Next, you’ll visit the Granite Quarries, where you’ll see the famous Unfinished Obelisk. This massive stone monument, intended to be one of a pair, lies where it was abandoned in the quarry, offering a fascinating glimpse into the techniques used by ancient stonemasons.

After lunch on board, you’ll take a felucca, a traditional wooden sailboat, on a tranquil cruise around Kitchener’s Island and the Aga Khan Mausoleum. As you glide along the Nile, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Aswan’s botanical gardens and the majestic mausoleum, final resting place of the Aga Khan III.

The evening brings a chance to experience the vibrant culture of the Nubian people, who have long called this region home. Enjoy a traditional folkloric show, complete with music and dance, followed by dinner on board. If you have time, you may wish to venture out and explore the surrounding area, which offers a mix of local shops, restaurants, and cafes. Or, take advantage of the hotel’s many amenities, including a fitness center, outdoor pool, and several dining options serving up everything from international fare to traditional Egyptian cuisine.
